Thank you for the good news.
I am interesting in Linked Data for biological/genetical data and the
idea is to use native data format with some on-the-fly converion to
represent them in LD platform. The data itself is very different in
formats, so probably to store it in rdf is not a good solution at the
moment.
Anyway the project is not started yet and it is in discussion fase.

Yes, Marmotta easily allows you to plug-in different backends:

There many, both official and unofficial, backend implementations. If
you want to use a new Sesame store as backend for Marmotta, we can
provide you some documentation for the requiered implementation that
has to be done.
