Amavisd is optional -- you can, if fact, configure cluebringer to either
incorporate it as part of running policyd or you can configure amavisd
completely separately (we do this). The clincher as to running policyd
(either version) is the main.cf file in postfix. You need something
like this at the top, because you want your rate limiting to kick in
prior to everything else:
smtpd_recipient_restrictions =
check_policy_service inet:127.0.0.1:10031
...
Sorry,m have not tried any of this under OS X, but it's all Linix-like,
so hard to imagine there'd be that much of a difference. Of course with
PHP, all sorts of odd things can happen. And, yes, DB issues are always
painful until you can get the connectivity established.
