kernel the last few months with more on the way. Thing is, mkfs.exfat and your 
camera can obviously write to the card. So it's not write protected or that 
wouldn't work. Why it can't be mounted read/write sounds like some obscure 
exfat bug.

What happens if you format it ext4 or btrfs? Does it mount read/write then?

But no seriously, format it in your camera in the end if you're planning on 
actually using it with the camera to take photos.

At this time I am not inclined to back it up to HD and
reformat it as ext4 or btrfs. But will do as soon as I have some bandwidth.
