it's not clear whether you're referring to an AMD CPU, or an AMD
(nee ATI) video chip.

AMD cpus work fine, I've hardly ever owned a system with an Intel
CPU and never had any compatibility issues.

AMD video chips, OTOH, are not (IMHO) as well supported.
