nslookup (or some versions of it) used to honor the /etc/nsswitch.conf file so if hosts was defined hosts: dns file in /etc/nsswitch.conf, "nslookup risingstar" would return the address (*if* /etc/hosts had "192.168.0.18 risingstar" in it). But Ed is correct, Lawrence, in that your /etc/hosts file is incorrect if you are trying to lookup a host named risingstar. If you change the /etc/hosts to look like the example entry I provided what does "nslookup risingstar" return?
