If aplay is working then something is probably screwed up in your
PulseAudio configuration.
Please post the full output of "pacmd info", which dumps Pulse's
configuration.

Is "pacmd info" a command? I cant seem to do anything with it,
"locate" shows nothing?
I need to look at the headphone jack circuit, it causes the
output on the back panel to be switched on/off and I am
suspecting something intermittent there?
