Sounds like in your case you have a Wifi interface. I have the same 
problem as the OP (in fact I was the reporter to BZ) and not having Wifi 
on the machine am obliged to use acpi=off on the grub line. Since this 
is a desktop I don't care that much about ACPI so it's an acceptable 
workaround for now.
