I hadn't done this because the problem also occurs on Android (on two different devices), but I decided there was nothing to lose so I created a new Linux user and tried again. And it worked. The only difference is that when I connected to Quora.com I chose to allow cookies. Now back at my original account, I can't see how to get this behaviour. Simply deleting cookies for the site and logging out doesn't seem to do it.
