I could easily do that, but when I go to this upgrade
again, the same thing will happen and I need to learn
how to deal with it.  Love dump/restore and clonezilla.

It better not happen again.  The only time I've had situations like this was due to a hardware issue of some sort (including laptop battery dying).

My wife says this kind of thing follows me around like a
dark cloud.

This is a good refreshed and training for me.

I can not tell you how may times I reports bugs on my
customer's machine to tech supports over the years
and get "no one else is having this problem". I
respond with, "wait a few weeks and you will get
swamped with reports. Better jump on this now
before that happens." They usually don't. Some
do and are very appreciative to the feedback.

That is my impression too. Not this time and not for me.
I have already upgraded two other Fedora machines (test
VM and shop machine) to 41 WITH NO ISSUE! That is why
I got brave on my main machine.

I WILL find the silver lining in the dark cloud.
