My video is radeon. That is showing in the error messages in
/var/log/messages I included in the bug report.

This does not change anything. I crashed and rebooted with this line in
modprobe.conf.
Got into firefox and cnn and lock.
Restarted.
Had nothing really running (no thunderbirds) got firefox going. lock.
I looked to see if chrome is available to try it, but don't see it in
the repo.
Any other browser?
Of course it should not be the browser, as all that is happening is some
function is being called that crashes the radeon driver.
Hopefully this gets solved soon. I can't go to a number of web sites
like in the past without the lockups.
It could be a hardware failure. Laptops over 5 years old are not to be
trusted.
