opt-in mode. Especially on upgrades from previous releases. The

The benefits have been well explained. The problem is that some people
really don't like change even if it's for the better. And sometimes
things do break when changed and instead of finding out why it breaks
and how to fix, they just say how terrible the new software is and that
it should never have been used.
The switch to systemd was a huge improvement and all the major distros
and probably most of the rest have switched to it.
systemd-resolved is working fine for most people. I had to check if I'm
using it because I hadn't even noticed any change. It will likely be
extra useful for VPNs once I get around to setting up split DNS for that.
