I also do not see thumbnails when I connect my Android phone to my PC, and I was not able to find a work-around (I have enabled thumbnail viewing for all locations in Nautilus, and it does not work). I've gotten into the habit of just moving all files to my PC so I get thumbnails, moving and deleting files as needed, and then moving the remaining files back to the phone if necessary.
