Offenders don't get a second chance, and if using a stolen gmail account find the account is quickly shut down. Professional spammers avoid groups that are more likely to cause them grief than clicks on their links. I use gmail for lists, but the address I use with family has been on the internet since the 1980's. Spam overwhelmed the mail server for that address a few times in over 30 years, but these days the majority of spam goes into a junk folder and the few that don't get caught by filters are often stolen gmail accounts and get reported. -- George N.
