The chip may support both serial and parallel ports, so linux may be sending your print data to the serial interface. Also: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/18917-faq-pci-parallel-port-cards has some recommendations, but CNC uses bidirectional communication that may not be necessary with an old printer. Some hardware gets initialized when the system is powered up and may not be reset by a reboot. Try a power cycle instead of a reboot. -- George N. White III
