I've been using the Kingston Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball for more than 2 
years now. 
The only thing I have to clean out is the cat fur that accumulates in the "ball 
well".  I
clean it out as a matter of course and not because it has caused me any 
performance issues.

I can't see how any rubber could wear from the scroll ring.
