Well, I can definitively say that information is incorrect.

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ rpm -q simple-mtpfs
package simple-mtpfs is not installed

And I can communicate just fine with my Galaxy Tab-S, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S6, and 
an
old ASUS table.
