OK. That is a rather old version of Android. All of the devices that I use on a regular basis are at Android 7. I am in the process of charging an older tablet that I've not used in a long time. One other question, which has been prompted by some googling. Are you using the original USB cable that came with the tablet? I see reports of people having problems with MTP when using "foreign" cables.
