I am none of the folks you cite.  However....

For this, pictures are worth a more than a few words.

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ mount | grep Videos
ds6:/volume1/video on /home/egreshko/Videos type nfs4

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ ll /home/egreshko/Videos
total 20
drwxrwxrwt. 192 root root 16384 Dec 13 04:43 Movies
drwxrwxrwt.  87 root root  4096 Dec 13 21:41 TV

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ sudo umount /home/egreshko/Videos

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ ll /home/egreshko/Videos
total 0

I have no idea what some people are talking about when they say they are "using 
links".
