You need to issue the xrandr command to position your monitor.

For example....  My configuration has 2 active outputs...

HDMI-0 connected primary
DP-1 connected

The monitor on DataPort1 sits on my desk to the right of the monitor on HDMI-0. 
 So, to
get the correct orientation I use...

xrandr --output DP-1 --right-of HDMI-0 --auto
