Without any units this defaults to nanoseconds, which means your timer is
spinning every microsecond. You probably mean 1000 * time.Millisecond?

By default go will use whatever version you originally checked out with `go
get` or the like. You can use a properly versioned copy via
http://gopkg.in/Shopify/sarama.v1.
