It does sound as if you need to move the SGE_ROOT file system from one
host to the next as well,
Yes, we do.
I'd say stopping everything & simply syncing it should work.
Yes, that's what we're hoping too.
Never done that between BSD & Linux but have done between different
Linux flavours.
That's good to hear.
Although, if you have a shared NFS between your shadow masters, what
was there to sync ?
Oh, nothing in case of my normal between-hosts-for-maintenance
migrations. But we've done things like move the hardware the NFS share
is on; move where the NFS share is mounted, ... Plus I've moved between
SGE versions a couple of times, usually by installing the new one,
importing my configuration, testing it a bit, and then making it the
'live' version - this is pretty similar to what you're trying. Plus I've
more than once created a new cell by basically copying my setup
(duplicate things for testing, that sort of thing).
I believe I quite often use the installer script for moving stuff, as
well - it can to migrations/backups/restores. That's a good thing to do
before you start, I'd say - have the installer back up your config; you
will always be able to re-import that (and it really doesn't care where
to). Installing the new machine and then having the installer migrate to
the new installation (if the old host can mount it) is an option, as
well, that's pretty safe.
(Sorry I sound a bit vague, it's one of these things I do every once in
a while & then immediately forget the exact steps - not because it's
complicated, but because it isn't, if that makes sense).
Er - classic spooling or DB spooling?
See original posting.
Sorry, yes, pay attention when reading. With classic spooling, it
shouldn't be an issue
Don't even think you need to bother with the IP - changing 'act_qmaster'
ought to do the trick.
Neither the IP, nor the name, are going to change after the machine
hosting the qmqster is swapped, as the new one is replacing the old
one, so changing 'act_qmaster' isn't required anyway.
Fair enough.
