inside is a link?!? Then it won't be shared automatically when sharing 
$SGE_ROOT/default/common

You can create a link in $SGE_ROOT/default/commont pointing to 
/var/lib/gridengine/default/common/act_qmaster which will work on the master 
machine, but you have to repeat this on each exechost and copy the relevant 
file(s).

This is unusual and looks like someone tried to "cleanup" the location of 
configuration files by good intention, but didn't make it in a nice way. Maybe 
the best would be to ask on the "crosswords" mailing list. The tutorials I 
could point you to are not intended for such an unusual installation and won't 
help.
