Using Edit > Track Changes > Compare Document, as suggested by Howard,
is certainly worth trying. In my experience it often identifies entire
paragraphs as being different, rather than flagging individual changes.

Does your editor not turn on Track Changes in Word when making her edits
and adding comments?

I don't understand. Yes, she did all that.
When I've tried comparing documents, LO has generally flagged entire paragraphs as different even when the differences between them were small or even nonexistent. I just did a test and I think that it may only happen when the other person editing the file has used Word rather than LO.
I have modified the original since I sent one to her for editing, and
I'm trying to merge tham with some automation. Not going so well...

Ah, I didn't realize that you'd made changes in your version before receiving her edits. That certainly complicates things. A programme like Meld (https://meld.app/) can do 3-way comparisons, but I think it only works for plain-text files. You might be able to save your documents as .txt files and do a 3-way comparison on them.
