MDL is essentially a framework of its own. I wouldn't expect third-party charts to have as many incompatibilities with our other component sets since the charts are likely designed to work in other UI's built by other JS frameworks. But we won't know until someone tries it.
Also, we could look into the basic components and try to capture their visual CSS dependencies as a theme.
