Aditya,

I'm never going to recommend downgrading to a version that's almost six
years old and for which lots of bug fixes have been made in later versions,
so particularly not because you can't get JMX to work for you. And I'm
especially not going to recommend that because you spent a small amount of
time trying to get things working with 5.9.0, couldn't, didn't ask for help
(not here, anyway), and gave up and instead started looking to downgrade.
I think you should use the same version of the broker and the client
(different versions of the client and the broker should generally be
compatible, but no one explicitly tests that and the more versions they are
apart, the greater the odds that some change causes an incompatibility that
no one expects), and I think you should use the latest version of ActiveMQ
if possible (see http://activemq.apache.org/what-version-should-i-use.html).
So I'd vote for upgrading right to 5.11.1 (or to 5.10.2 if you're
risk-averse about whether some unknown bug might be lurking in the latest
release), but if the choice is between 5.9.0 and 5.3.0, I'm going to vote
for 5.9.0 every time.

If you're having trouble getting things to work with 5.9.0/5.10.2/5.11.1,
post details of what problems you're seeing here, and we'll try to help you
figure out what's going on with that. (On the other hand, if you stick
with 5.3.0, you're not likely to get a lot of help here, since no one who's
in a position to help you will have run it in years and no one's going to
want to spend time debugging problems in a six-year-old version where the
bugs have likely been resolved or rendered irrelevant by later versions.)
