I have no idea why you would think that my first reaction would be that taglibs, java, the entire world must be wrong because me stuff does not work. I have found an unusual situation. If you knew me, you would know that I would not raise this question frivolously. Okay? I am not taking any disrespect, however. Honest! LOL ///8-)
code/environment before I started blaming the struts taglibs!
I have done all these things and a lot more, Paul. That is why I raised the issue. When I get into this sort of position I tend to remove all traces of my jsp from the container (including the generated servlet etc), redeploy & restart the container. If that doesn't give me any joy then I'll debug into the taglib in question. To my mind this is a huge advantage of using components where I have access to the source.

I could take about four hours to document the reason why I raised this question. One reason, for example, is a very strange placement of a "'" in the error statement which I determined could not come from my code. All that aside, I think I will go on now with trying JSTL anyway, since that is going to be inevitable and makes this discussion otiose. Anyway, I am a seasoned programmer/engineer who realizes that the computer is always right and talk to the TeleTubby before raising issues like I have here. Thanks for taking the time. My reply is probably too testy, but losing a couple days work over what should be simple does that to me sometimes.
