Dear Daniel and Maxim,
In the spirit of collaborating with our OpenMeetings community, here is
some additional information regarding OpenMeetings screensharing.
For Users@OM
We have been extensively using OpenMeetings’ screensharing applications
to present our other mainstream products to investors, customers,
partners and our employees. Since the latest version of Chrome (v. 46)
allows the use of screensharing in OpenMeetings 3.0.7, the information
below compels us to assume OpenMeetings uses Java Web start JNLP
application, instead of a Java applet. Perhaps someone could throw more
light on this or clarify it.
For Dev@OM
Chrome’s non-support of NPAPI that is effective September, 2015 affects
only Java applet-based applications. That could be the reason Chrome
still enables screensharing with OM 3.0.7, which uses Java Web start
application.
Unlike Java applets, OpenMeetings JNLP Web Start application does not
run inside the original browser, as this JNLP Web Start program is not
part of the OpenMeetings Web page. It is an independent application that
runs in a separate frame. OpenMeetings has a special XML file with JNLP
extension (Public.jnlp). This file has metadata of the application.
Specifically, it describes the application requirements, code location
(codebase), parameters (port, app name) and additional permissions. The
browser downloads this file as any other and (following its MIME type,
application/x-java-jnlp-file) opens it with Web Start tool. Web Start
tool downloads all necessary resources and launches the screensharing /
recording application.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Hi all:
We are using O.M. 2.11 and the recording/screensharing module will
not work with the Chrome browser any longer. Has anything been
done to allow for this to work? I also believe it will not work in
the new Microsoft Edge browser.
Thanks.
Dan
