lifecycle callbacks not always fired

Hi Andrus (in particular),

(Note: 3 tier Cayenne)
we're finding that the postUpdate method is not being called if an  
operation is commenced on the server-side (like a data upgrade  
service). However, if the operation is triggered from the client-side  
then it is called.

Any ideas?
