Thanks Aaron. As I remarked earlier (and it seems it not uncommon) none of the nodes have X11 installed (I think I could arrange this, but it's a bit of a hassle). So if I understand correctly, jconsole is a X11 app, and I'm out of luck with that.
I would agree with you that having a proper nodetool command to zap the data you know you don't need, would be quite ideal.
