More information in case it could help to isolate and solve the problem:

- the problem could be related with a extrange incompatibility between the
use of /dev/pts consoles and network kernel modules. 
Just making a "modprobe" of a network related kernel module after having
used the pts console makes the virtual machine hang. 

I've tested with modules like wanrouter, pktgen, bridge, 8021q or ip_vs and
all of them make the vm hang. However, loading other no network related
modules work without problem (aes-i586, crypto-null or sunrpc).

- I have made a quick test with kernel 2.6.23-rc4 and the behaviour is the
same.
