I had a similar problem, and it turned out it was a problem with the DEV file system. By compiling the old DEV_FS file system into the kernel (CONFIG_DEV_FS) the problem vanished!

I am using the stock inittab found in the root files systems available for download. To be even more specific, I've tried the slackware fs and readhat fs as well as mandrake with all the same results. Again I twittled with this fie but with no success as well. ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott Granados To: user-mode-linux-user@lists.sourceforge.net Sent: Friday, March 04, 2005 12:41 PM Subject: [uml-user] inittab and to many processes question Hi, I ran uml on a machine quite a while successfully and haven't run in to this problem. I am using kernel v2.6.11 for my uml and fedora 3 on my host machine with v2.6.9, the stock kernel. I downloaded several root file systems prebuilt from the uml site and all have the same issue. I start uml and all goes well until after starting innd or the last service depending. I get, respawning to fast, no processes left, holding for five minutes. I realize that this is likely a problem in the inittab and that the getty is the issue but I've had no success with editing this file or with different builds. Any pointers would be helpful. I've seen some threads on this but none of the fixes seemed to work for me. Did I build something in my uml wrong?
