Hi, I've kept putting off my foray into the labyrinthine world of UML, but now it's time. I'm supporting some software whose specific target platform is RH8 (don't ask me why). I'm running Fedora Core 2 as host, but my basic intention is to keep up with the latest version of Fedora. I've been following the instructions at:

http://linuxhacker.ru/uml/

But my situation is a little different, and I need a little more help than is provided there. First of all, step 2 says that I need to get the user-mode kernel compiled. This kernel is for the guest OS, right? Can I compile this inside my Fedora host system, or do I need to install RH8, recompile the kernel and then copy it somewhere?

Finally, I have recompiled a kernel before, but I can't remember the details. Can somebody point me to a good reference for kernel compilation?

Thanks,
Carl
