The Read Me that came with MetaCard included: "MetaCard is very good at exposing bugs in drivers."

It used to annoy me that Raney would ask me to make sure I was using the latest driver available from the manufacturer of whatever device I was having trouble with (displays, printers, etc.).

I'd say, "But it doesn't happen with any other software!"

And he'd say, "Please check the driver version, and if a newer one doesn't fix it let me know."

In nearly every such case since I had that exchange with him in 1999, he was right.

Always check driver versions.
