I agree that we should get some tips from Android , and yes, widgets are one of those things . I think that Androids concept Launcher->Widgets/Apps/Services (roughly put) is one of the healthiest mixes out there . The standard Desktop concept is outdated , and adding widget functionality with some standard good looking available widgets will be a big push for Ubuntu . Like HTC Sense has some initial widgets , I think there should be a scope in the Software center for widgets - a few nicely made Ubuntu starters (weather,clock etc.) and any that the users may want to develop and contribute .
