Before 11.10, touchpad users could use 3 finger taps for middle click. This ability was removed in unity (3D) and then eventually in unity 2D as well. I have no idea why but it was a terrible decision since it doesn't appear to do anything else. Every desktop I know I am able to do 3 finger taps but not unity.
