With all due respect I believe this is just a different manifestation of the same bug. The reason I say this is, if the combined width is <2048, the flicker does not happen and the monitors will actually work. I'm not overly familiar with how these bug responses work but when I saw others mention flicker I figure I'd try and describe it a bit more as it still seems to be out there.
