That's strange. I also have a machine with a built-in GMA 4500 MHD graphics (a Lenovo Thinkpad X301), but I could not observe the mentioned flickering on the VGA out there (I am using 1024x768 with 60Hz) - the problem appeared only on my older X41 with the i855GM chipset.
