Oh, I found out something that might help. The crash only occurs when I have Appearance>Visual Effects set to Normal or Extra, and it's because of the width of the virtual desktop. I was able to reliably duplicate the crash. Whenever I try to use Display Prefences to make an extended desktop with a total width bigger than about 2000 pixels (I'm guessing 2048,) it will cause the crash. (Part of the Fn + F5 hotkey's functions is to cycle through four different monitor setups: laptop only, external only, extended desktop, and mirrored, so pressing Fn + F5 will sometimes cause this crash.) With Appearance>Visual Effects set to None, I can extend the desktop without any problems. When I try to set Visual Effects higher while the desktop is extended bigger than 2000 pixels, it gives an error message, "Desktop effects could not be enabled". >From what I've read elsewhere, I understand that this might be an Intel hardware error... -- [i945gme] Freeze when switching to an external monitor via hotkey https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
