@nomnex: On my Amilo Xi 3650 I can turn off »Hybrid Graphics« in the BIOS and 
select which device to use. Both of them work perfectly.
If »Hybrid Graphics« is enabled, you can switch graphic cards by pressing a 
button (Windows). Everything but the splash screen works if I boot Ubuntu, 
except from switching to the nVidia card.
This is my personal experience, I'm not sure whether this applies to ThinkPad 
notebooks as well.
