Well, I ended up with the nvidia-304 304.131-0ubuntu5 version, which loads into the kernel just fine, and also allows Hugin to function...
I am curious - since the fixed 304.132-0ubuntu2 version loads into the kernel, why has it not yet made it into Yakkety? Since I cannot use it (see comment #22), it doesn't make much difference to me, but it probably would help other people.
