Re: #114. In the bug 90401 at bugs.freedesktop.org (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90401) I was pointed to the xf86-video-intel page http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86 -video-intel/. Building and installing this got rid of the flashing lights, unusable display, etc and seems to have fixed the bug I saw.
