I've found recently that sometimes system does not hang, but wifi connection is dropped unexpectedly instead. I'm sitting two meters from AP and I'm the only user so it is not caused by signal strength or AP overload. But maybe this could be a clue - when disconnection occurs, /var/log/messages shows the following:
