On a just-installed Ubuntu 12.10 I installed linux-headers-generic, fgrlx-updates and fgrlx-amdcccle-updates then restarted and the driver (including Catalyst Control Center) have been installed successfully.
fglrxinfo is reporting: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
