I have a NVIDIA 8500GT and running 32 on a 64 machine. I was stuck with this problem since 11.04. That was one reason I switched distributions. For example: those problems did NOT occur to me in Fedora 15 using gnome3. On the Precise release I gave Ubuntu another try and recognized my server crashes again on Unity&Gnome3.
BUT the 302.11 does the trick for me ( http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=181247 ) no crashes in several days off topic: I read about some problems with a blue tint on e.g. Youtube.
