Further info, was using Ubuntu 12.04 with Nvidia Geforce 9500GT with nvidia-current absolutely no problems, upgraded to 9800GT and began seemingly random crashes of xorg resulting in logout.
Yesterday installed Opensuse 12.1 and all fine with default install of Nouveau driver, installing nvidia-current on Opensuse results in same random logouts, and swapping 9800gt back to 9500gt problem disappears.
