The driver that comes with Ubuntu, 11.10 or 12.04 doesn't seem to work very
well and is outdated.
Completely remove the Ubuntu supplied driver and install the v12.3
(3/28/2012) driver from
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.42&lang=English
It doesn't work perfectly, but it is much better, I actually have triple
monitors working with this driver.
