Mike Steele #92, I had the same issue with gears and other OpenGL programs, they were running very slow. However clicking the "Sync to vBlank" options in Nvidia settings resolved it, but ofcourse your performances get capped to your screen refresh rate.
I don't know if this is a global setting or if it is related to my specific hardware.
