Alan, Install pavucontrol from the Software Centre You can find and run it from Unity Launcher by typing "Pulse"
You have to have Sound-Recorder recording something to make it show up in PAV Recording Input selector. Once you've chosen an input it will remember it next time you open Sound-Recorder.
