Yes it works for mics ok, I think such items are well covered in the standardised development 'testing' app. The trouble arises I think when the built-in audio is used - say to record a sound clip - and then the setup choices lack a functioning choice. However, the expected working choice becomes available if a gnome classic desktop environment is used. Bug #985119. It is confirmed, however to my disappointment it is still only a Low priority. I use sound clip stuff a lot, and if I am to use Unity, as I hope to, I will need to use a hard wired link at the audio sockets, in any machine I am using, which is inconvenient.
