yeah, I suggested it. The best way is not to petition it or anything, but to implement it as a python based lens and submit it as an extra. I will do that at some stage, but it would be great if someone beat me to it. The lens I have is functional, but an ugly hack of the default apps lens. Since most of what I did was rip out code someone else spent time writing I kind of doubt it would ever get in like it is, plus it is in Vala which I don't really understand very well. code is here, help yourself https://code.launchpad.net/~alanbell/+junk/appmenu-lens
Thanks for that. I've been using Enlightenment on Precise as I haven't been able to get Unity to do what I want it to so far. Alacarte tends to indicate that the app classifications are still lurking in there somewhere. If I can get my head round building app lenses I might have a chance. In the meantime, has anyone managed to make a free implementation of NX work with a Unity desktop? I suspect Unity 2D is the most likely to have a chance of working, but Unity won't do what I want it to do if I can't find a decent way of accessing remote desktops. NX clients are a great way of doing that, but Unity doesn't seem to be supported in any of the ones I've looked at. I'm currently using nxserver from Eugene San's PPA.
